full speed ahead
Hello all! Day 3 into our Anchorage adventure finds me a very happy girl! Stephanie awoke this AM around 8 to a glorious Alaskan sky with sunshine to be had. It was about 50 degrees when we suited up for a nice run! I FINALLY have a running buddy! yay…after all these years of searching. We would run/walk when we got winded. I would say we did a good 3 to 3.5 miles total! It’s such amazing running weather. Cool and no humidity to speak of. My breath comes so EASY here and I feel like I could run to Canada with a only a bottle of water, some good tunes,a nice carb load and my running buddy. After we came back we showered up and ironed ALL of our clothes. If I see an iron ever again it will be too soon. We caught a bus into town to get a feel of our new city!
Downtown is very nice. It has a small town feel to it but still has all the amenities of a bigger city. There are tons of beautiful flowers in bloom right now! One our way to the bus a very nice girl from Tennessee with some awesome looking pink hair told us about a coffee shop called Kobuck’s that we just had to try. So we got off on 5th avenue and made our way there. So adorable! I absolutely love the feel of a quaint coffee shop. It makes me feel as if it is perpetual autumn. Sighhh…if only it could be. After our coffees we explored some shops, bought some postcards for all the lovely people back in WV that we love, miss and wish were here with us!
We decided it would be a good time to look into things around Alaska that we want to do while we are here. Needless to say our plates filled up quickly between kayacking, hiking, biking, glacier/whale tours, train trips…the list is endless. I am so ready to get out into this beautiful state and see what it has to offer. We ended up striking a conversation with the guy who was giving us brochures on tours and the like. His name is Brandon and he hails from sunny California and is in his fourth year at Alaska Pacific University here in town. He told us he has a cottage in the Sierra Nevadas and is here to get his degree in outdoor studies. Wow….super jealous. That would be amazing.
Anyway, rotation starts today so I gotta get ready! I am so nervous. I just hope the preceptors like us. I honestly feel if I like this rotation that I might end up applying for a residency right here in Anchorage! How cool would it be to say that I lived in Alaska for a year!? Oh well, for now it’s feet on the ground and working hard so that hopefully I can get the opportunity. Here goes nothing……
